Reflection of Learning

After working on this project, my view on the B.C curriculum and Indigenous Language Revitalization has changed drastically. As I mentioned in my first post, I had never had much experience with Indigenous education being incorporated into my learning. As I had been doing my research, I learned lots about the importance language holds for communities across Canada and the world. Language is more than what we say; language is imbedded in our history and cultural identity.

Through exploring the importance of preserving Indigenous languages, I was also able to grow my knowledge and understanding. When researching a list of resources to use in the classroom, I was amazed at how many possibilities there is to expand on these resources. One of my favorite parts of this was the opportunity to look for cross-curricular connections. As educators, we often find ourselves afraid to push the boundaries beyond our curriculum, but it is an opportunity for us to deepen our thinking and understanding.

My next steps moving forward will be carrying forward all that I have learned through this assignment. I have the opportunity to incorporate these new resources during my upcoming practicum. During my practicum experience, I hope to connect with my mentor teacher about their use of including Indigenous language in the classroom and possibly sharing the resources that I have found with them. In the meantime, I will continue to look for new resources to add as well as connecting with others to look for more ways I could include these resources in future teaching practices.
